Alexander Kearney is the young guy with a guitar you see in every city at one time or another, but there's more to him than that. Charismatic, playful, and able to charm the pants off almost anybody he meets (sometimes literally), he also has a streak of good luck that he would describe as uncanny—that is, if he believed in such things. Though he is not yet aware of it, Alex is the incarnation of the Native American deity Coyote.
History
Alex was born in the small town of Madrid, New Mexico, to a pair of artists who owned their own gallery. Upon finishing high school, he chose to work for his parents rather than start college immediately. He finally enrolled at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque at twenty-two, but left three years later, leaving behind a questionable academic record—though his grades were decent, there was a fair amount of suspicion as to how he got those grades, considering he wasn't in class half the time and rarely turned in any projects or assignments.
Bored with New Mexico and looking for a change, Alex took off for Washington, D.C.
Personality
Likes
Music, scotch, sex, playing harmless pranks, travel, illusions, bars with interesting atmosphere, flirting, being the center of attention.
Dislikes
People who take themselves too seriously or can't take a joke, bigotry, selfishness and hoarding of resources.
Strengths
Skilled guitarist with a reasonably good singing voice to match, attractive and charming, stays cool in a crisis, has strangely good luck.
Weaknesses
Gullible in spite of being a prankster, heavily influenced by what others think of him, is a sucker for a pretty girl (and occasionally a pretty boy or two), impulsive.
Coyote
Though Alex is still unaware that he is anything other than just another guy with a guitar, he does share some similarities with Coyote, the trickster of Native American lore. Both are fond of playing pranks on others. No matter what happens to either one of them, they get back on their feet quickly. Both are impulsive and jealous at times.
More similarities will unfold as Alex begins to realize what he is…but that might be a long time coming.
Knows…
- His mother and father, artists in Madrid, New Mexico. He calls them frequently. He is their only child, and, while he is very much an adult, they worry about him compulsively, especially his mother.
- Diana Keesler, the first person he met in Washington, D.C. She had the Holy Trinity of things Alex was looking for at the moment: knowledge of the city, knowledge of where he could sleep, and a possible fling in the future.
- Joe, the man he is currently renting a room from. Diana's friend.
Recent Events
Alex is new to the area and is still getting his bearings, and meeting the locals.
